OCC old computer challenge
The old computer challenge is a thing that has existed for a few years now. It's hung on the periphery of my experience. Occasionally a random blogpost will show up in my feed.
Maybe I'll be looking up how to use the internet, and boom, here's a blog post about using windows ME in 2023 or something.
I enjoy the idea. I have some older laptops around, and every year they get older and I think, I could do this.
I am not good at blogging, and less good at sticking to things. So i know i never will partake properly.
However, this year i've been following along as Andreas over at 82mhz has been doing his thing. I'm inspired. So I haven't done it properly, I won't be submitting anything, but what I have done is yanked out my old laptop (from 2015 I think?) and installed openBSD on it (Not old computer stuff, but I dunno. It feels adjacent to me I guess?)
I've been doing less an old computer, and more a minimal modern thing? I'm using ii for my irc client, bitlbee for my XMPP needs, and of course, I installed icq.
NINA seems fun, so let's see how it works.
If you want me, you can find me on ICQ with the UIN 142512114
I might try and see what other old things i can slap places. Might even actually install an old version of linux or a bsd. Might be fun!
